Where to Stay
Camping

Navajo Lake State Park
Navajo Lake State Park has three camping areas: The Pine River Site, the Sims Mesa Site and the San Juan River Recreation Site. Each site is centered on the lake surrounded by sandstone mesas, pinon and juniper. Boating and water skiing are popular here, and the lake provides good fishing for trout, salmon, bass, northern pike, catfish and crappie.

Angel Peak Recreational Area
The Angel Peak Recreational Area exists in the Nacimiento Badlands. Facilities include 16 family camping and picnic units, each with a fireplace, table and several pavilions. There are fenced overlooks, parking areas, and easy-going trails. No services or water available.

  Chaco Canyon
Chaco Canyon offers restricted exploration through Ancestral Puebloan ruins, early Navajo sites and numerous canyons and washes. Check with the visitor center for areas that require a back country permit. Gallo Campground is one mile east of the visitor center and contains 49 sites with picnic tables and fire grates. Fee is $10 per night. Facilities have restrooms, but no showers. Drinking water is available at the Visitor Center.
