The Four Corners Power Plant is operated by
Arizona Public Service at the turn-off just over 11 miles west on
Hwy. 64 to County Road 6675. Visitors can view major operating components
of a 2-million kilowatt coal-fired power plant providing energy for
the Southwest and state-of-the-art environmental control equipment.

The San Juan Generating Station, operated by Public Service
Company of New Mexico, offers group presentations and tours of
the coal-fired power plant that supplies electricity to the Southwest
and California. The station is 15 miles west on Hwy. 64. To arrange

Two coal mines in the area, the Navajo and San Juan
Mines, operated by BHP Billiton, deliver coal to the two large
power plants generating electricity for New Mexico, the Southwest
and California. The La Plata Mine is now a reclamation
operation. Tours are offered by appointment only by calling Navajo
Mine, (505) 598-3396; San Juan Mine, (505) 598-2000; and La Plata
Mine, (505) 598-2800. Picnic facilities are adjacent to La Plata
Mine at Tally Park with fees charged by calling Upper La Plata Water
Users Association (505) 326-1751.
